By Zoila Palma González: Flooding was reported in many communities in Cayo District last week.

More than 100 residents were evacuated and had remained in shelters as the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) continues to assess the situation.

Residents who were affected in Benque Viejo del Carmen received much-needed assistance from Cayo West Area Representative Jorge ‘Milin’ Espat and the Taiwan Embassy in Belize.

“Several of our fellow citizens were affected by the bad weather last week and we thank His Excellency, David Kuan-Chou Chien, Ambassador of Taiwan, for providing assistance to some of these families. They are very grateful for this help which is brought to them,” Espat said.
