Marvel, Lovecraft Country Stunt Double Interview Janeshia Adams-Ginyard

Earlier this week, we featured stuntman Lee Chesley and now it’s time for part two of our series. Janeshia Adams-Ginyard is a stuntwoman who also makes her mark as an actress: she played Nomble, member of the Dora Milaje who appeared in by marvel Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Avengers: Infinity War, and Black Panther. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg in his career.

As a stuntman, Adams-Ginyard also doubled Teyonah Parris in WandaVision, Aunjanue Ellis in Lovecraft Country– a memorably fierce turn that earned him an Emmy nomination for Best Stunt Performance – and Danai Gurira in Avengers: Endgame, to name just a few credits on his extensive curriculum vitae. Aiko Tanaka recently spoke with Adams-Ginyard for io9 to find out more. Check out the inspirational video above (which also includes a sneak peek into her professional wrestling career!), In which the performer talks about the relationships she has forged with the women she has dubbed on camera.

“When my Emmy nomination came up, Aunjanue Ellis—who was also nominated for an Emmy for Lovecraft Country– supported me so much, she congratulated me, she wished me good luck. And it’s really great because on the set she was also a great support. She trusted my skills. I was happy to be her stuntman and just this extension of this character that she had created. Adams-Ginyard also talks about the importance of staying fit “physically … mentally … and spiritually” in order to be able to excel at your job. “As an athlete it was a perfect mix, so to speak, to do the stunts, because I think of it as an action game. I am definitely a multi-hyphen: I play and I do stunts.

It also reveals his favorite scene so far (this was from Disney + and Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier), and one of the most rewarding things about being involved in superhero movies. “I have met several women and little girls who have been dressed like my [Black Panther] character to different comics. It just makes me feel really good on the inside because I feel like I’m having a good impact.
