On July 27, the United States provided $14.5 million to support the East Jerusalem Hospital Network (EJHN) as it continues to provide necessary and lifesaving treatment to tens of thousands of Palestinians. This funding is the first installment of the pledge of up to $100 million announced by President Joseph R. Biden during his visit to the region.
The RJEJ provides services to Palestinians to which they do not have access in the West Bank and Gaza. With this assistance, USAID supports continued and uninterrupted advanced healthcare services for Palestinians. These include highly specialized medical services, such as pediatric cardiac surgery, cardiac catheterization, nephrology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and cancer treatment. This builds on USAID’s historic support to EJHN of over $90 million since 2014.
USAID is committed to improving the lives of the Palestinian people to lay the foundation for an eventual two-state solution. In addition to supporting EJHN, USAID is supporting the Palestinian health sector in its COVID-19 response efforts, including facilitating the U.S. donation of over one million vaccines through COVAX.
